Does Your IT Delight You?

For many, IT is synonymous with waiting on hold with technical support, dealing with frustrating, unexplainable computer issues, and running into complex problems that get in the way of actual work. It can sometimes feel like the whole world has to constantly catch up to technology, when technology is supposed to make us all more efficient and effective. The question is, how can modern IT be best utilized to drive your business forward? Better yet, can it be done delightfully?

English author Douglas Adams once wrote, “It can hardly be a coincidence that no language on Earth has ever produced the expression ‘As pretty as an airport.’ Airports are ugly.”

I’m not sure if the late Douglas Adams ever had the opportunity to fly out of Austin-Bergstrom International, and while I think beauty is in the eye of the beholder, he has a point. Airports aren’t known for being beautiful. They might have interesting architecture, randomly placed sculptures, and food court storefronts that look like Michelin 3-Star restaurants, but ultimately they exist to get you from point A to point B.

That’s how a lot of business owners and office managers look at IT. You’ve got your computers and servers—they need to run well. You need to be protected from viruses, malware and other threats. You need to be able to print and email (without being drowned in spam) and do all of the other important things that keep your business operating.

For the longest time, business owners have been saying “I just want it to work, and I want to know it will keep working!”

In response to that demand, that’s what most IT companies promise to deliver. They base their entire message around it. They say, “We will keep your technology running so you can focus on your business.” We’ve said it too, and we know that this is what small businesses need at a bare minimum.

But that’s the thing—bare minimum isn’t good enough. Not for us, and not for our clients.

IT is More Than Keeping the Computers On

We understand when Central Texas business owners look at their IT and the cost of maintaining it and look at it as a necessary evil. If we take a step back to our airport example, IT can be seen as just a means to an end. You have computers and a network and someone needs to take care of them. After all, an airport’s main function is to process airline travelers. The fancy food courts, bars, and art exhibits are really just an accessory.

IT, however, is more than that. Yes, small businesses should at least have the bare minimum of proactive maintenance and preventative security across their network, but the point of your technology is to improve and streamline what you do everyday. It’s easy to look at all of the expensive computers and laptops and servers and other infrastructure and see it as a burden, but it’s there working for you and your staff each and every day. Its singular purpose is to make it easier for you to run your business better, faster, and more effectively.

Your IT is there so employees can communicate and collaborate better, and so that production and internap processes can be streamlined. It’s there to improve communication and customer service. These days, it’s helping millions of workers work remotely so they can keep their jobs and their employers can keep the lights on.

Your IT Support Should Be More

Back to the original question—does your IT delight you? If you, like so many other business owners, can answer that question with a “no,” we should talk.

As the Central Texas IT Support Experts, we’ve made it our mission to change how business owners and office managers feel about their IT. We understand the stigma that comes with calling for tech support—the long hold times, the labyrinth of phone prompts, the technician reading off a script and not understanding your perspective. Capstone Works, Inc. will never treat our customers that way. If you feel like IT is a necessary evil, it’s coming from a place of experience, and we can demonstrate that those experiences aren’t universal.

How Do We Do This?

First of all, if you call our help desk during business hours, you get an actual technician picking up the phone within 15 seconds or less. If you have a managed services agreement where we are taking care of your IT, we don’t nickel-and-dime you over support calls. If you call in with an issue or a question, big or small, we support you.

These things seem pretty basic to us, but not every IT provider can claim to provide this type of responsiveness… and that’s only the beginning.

Sure, we answer phones quickly and provide great support, but that’s not even what makes us stand out to our clients. It’s what makes us different than the airport that’s processing thousands of travelers a day (who care more about their trip and their destination than the airport itself). In fact, a better analogy might be the hometown deli you’ve been going to every single day. The owner knows your name and gets to know your story. The owner knows you are a repeat customer and you like pepper jack, so he always gives you a little extra and asks how your kids are doing in school. You might not get that kind of service at a sandwich chain... you’ll get consistency, but not the care.

At Capstone Works, Inc., we care deeply. Our technicians understand that IT problems are business problems, and that the last thing anyone wants to do is call tech support and be asked what lights are blinking on a server. We understand that you’ve invested in all of this hardware and software to grow your business and meet specific goals, and as natives to Cedar Park, we are familiar with your IT challenges and always make sure to align with your goals.

When we hire technicians, their capabilities, knowledge, and drive are all important factors, but they also have to be personable, friendly, and humble at the same time. We don’t ever want you to get off the phone with us and feel like we didn’t take your issue seriously or that we aren’t following through on something.

Your IT Support Should Be a Delightful Experience

We know there’s a huge stigma when it comes to tech support, but we’re committed to changing that, and we think our clients could happily tell you that we’re doing a great job at it.

If, up to this point, the type of IT support you’ve been getting for your business has been less than desired, we encourage you to reach out. Not only can we go in and fix all of the problems left behind by your existing IT company, we truly think we can turn you around and make you love IT again.
